Before I ever built a website, I spent years learning something that turned out to be far more valuable — how people actually communicate.
Working in customer service and medical front offices, I learned to hear what people weren’t saying, anticipate what they needed before they asked for it, and connect with them in a way that felt genuine.
I didn’t know it then, but that experience became the foundation of everything I do now.
My actual leap into this industry started at a megachurch — honestly, what I thought was my dream job. I was supporting their global missions department, using my admin brain, solving problems behind the scenes, and helping people do meaningful work around the world. I loved it.
Until I didn’t.
The commute was 40 minutes each way, I was missing time with my family, and I was spending my days in a windowless office that used to be a closet. Not exactly the dream I had imagined. I knew there had to be a better way.
Then one day I was asked to update the organization’s website.
Zero experience. A lot of Googling. And somewhere in that process I discovered something I wasn’t expecting — building websites hit the sweet spot between creativity, strategy, and genuine human connection.
It wasn’t just technical work. At its best it was an act of clarity. A way of helping someone say exactly who they are to exactly the right people.
Three months later I left that job — closet office and all — and launched Second Click Media full time. Not because I wanted to build websites.
Because I realized my gift was never the website itself. It was helping people move forward on their journey so they could help more people.
That’s still what gets me out of bed every morning.
As a Christian, I believe that serving people with truth isn’t a strategy — it’s a foundation. And after six years watching too many agencies manipulate buyers, overcomplicate strategies, and charge small business owners into confusion and dependency, I built SCM to be the thing I wished had existed when I was starting out. An agency that leads with honesty, operates with integrity, and genuinely celebrates when a client outgrows the problem that brought them to us in the first place.
Today SCM works with nonprofits and visionary entrepreneurs who have something real to say and need a partner who can help them say it. I still do what I’ve always done — listen carefully, ask the right questions, and build the kind of clarity that changes how people show up everywhere, not just online.
